Sapura Industrial Berhad (SIB), in strategic collaboration with Zhejiang Zhongze Precision Technology Co. Ltd. (ZZ Tech), today officially inaugurated the SIB ZZT manufacturing plant in Gurun, Kedah. Officiated by Yang Amat Berhormat Dato' Seri Haji Muhammad Sanusi bin Md Nor, Menteri Besar Kedah, the inauguration marks a significant milestone in SIB's growth journey as the Group expands beyond automotive component manufacturing into precision energy components, strengthening Malaysia's energy manufacturing ecosystem and supporting the growing regional and global demand for energy storage solutions.
The SIB ZZT manufacturing plant is the first phase of a multi-phase manufacturing expansion project. Designed as an export-oriented manufacturing hub, the facility manufactures precision battery cans and lids for energy storage applications, serving customers across international markets. Equipped with advanced smart manufacturing technologies, including automation and end-to-end traceability, the plant is built to deliver high standards of quality, precision and operational efficiency. The site has also been planned with sufficient land to support future expansion in line with business growth and market demand.
The inauguration of the SIB ZZT manufacturing plant reflects SIB's long-term strategy to diversify its business and strengthen its presence in high-growth industries. By combining SIB's extensive manufacturing expertise with ZZ Tech's advanced precision technology, the collaboration enhances Malaysia's advanced manufacturing capabilities, supports localisation efforts and contributes to the National Energy Transition. It also strengthens Malaysia's position as a competitive manufacturing base within the regional and global battery and energy storage supply chain.
Beyond strengthening Malaysia's manufacturing capabilities, the project is expected to generate broader economic benefits through the creation of over 200 employment opportunities, contributing to the development of a skilled workforce in advanced manufacturing. The export-oriented facility is also expected to create opportunities for local suppliers and supporting industries, while promoting technology transfer, capability development and long-term industrial growth within Malaysia's manufacturing ecosystem.
